If you intend to move to pc laptop, I would go with a lenovo think pad x or w series.įor a cheaper usb 2.0 card that delivers solid drivers and decent converters I would go with the EMU 0404 usb 2.0.

If you really want to make the switch from a mac and a duet, then I would consider an rme ff400 or something that will get you closer to what you had. They are not great at all from where you came from. I would use a used macbook with firewire before I would ever think about a fast track. I am so sorry, going from a duet to a fast track? I think this interface is my best option.Wow! I think i'm fallen in love with mine - never ever trouble with firewire, total portability, pristine sound, low latencies - this is a very good interface for the "normal" musician that does not have an audiophile neurose, highly recommended! but of course you gearslutz will sniff at m-audio products, so.

the profire came down to 6 ms.Ĭonverters and pres are decent, and the pres have more gain and are more quite than the older m-audio stuff. still very solid and stable and not much cpu overload. The fast track ultra goes down, at its lowest buffer setting of 64 samples and at 44.1 khz, to 4.8 ms total roundtrip latency. The profire has slightly the better specs and seems to have a tad better converters, but i was not sure whether i could hear the difference or whether it was a psychoacoustic effect. i originally wanted either a rme fireface or a profire 610, but i had trouble finding a pcmcia card with TI chipset, so i took also the fast track ultra home for testing. I got one of these yesterday, and it's actually a very good unit. I think this interface is my best option. The 2 insert inputs will also give me the chance to add a load of pres (i think) just in case things get a bit more serious (size wise)Īll the outputs will give me a chance to send all the midi audio tracks in my program to an outboard mixer if/when I get one. The 4 pres in the interface will be handy if I find myself in a band situation.

maybe RME) in the next couple of months for 2 really good channels. I will more than likely buy some high quality pres and converters (rosetta 200. That offers plenty of options to expand in the future. Basically, I am getting it because it seems to be one of the best USB2.0 interfaces around. the guitar was recorded using the duet, I think the sound quality is good). ( My Small Adventure - Swings and roundabouts. Not my choice though, the new macbooks have no firewire. Im actually changing from an apogee duet to this fast track ultra.
